Online Companion Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Tech Peace Online Companion browser extension only — what it collects, why, and who it's shared with. Last updated September 30, 2026.

Tech Peace Online Companion ("the extension") is published by Tech Peace LLC, operator of https://www.mytechpeace.com ("Tech Peace," "we," "us"). This policy explains what the extension collects when installed in your browser, how that information is used, and the choices you have. It does not cover information collected through other parts of the Tech Peace service (phone support, in-home visits, or the member account on mytechpeace.com), which is governed by separate agreements with your membership.

What the extension does

The extension has one purpose: helping Tech Peace members browse the web safely and independently. It does this two ways — a background check for scam and phishing warning signs on the page you are viewing, and an on-page chat helper, which you trigger yourself, that reads the current page and answers questions about it in plain, numbered steps.

Information the extension collects

Account and sign-in information

To use the scam-checking and chat features, you sign in with your Tech Peace member email and password. The extension sends these to Tech Peace's authentication provider (Supabase) to verify your membership, and then stores only the resulting sign-in session — an access token, a refresh token, and your email address — in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local). Your password itself is never stored by the extension.

Page content, only when needed

Most pages are checked entirely on your own device using a built-in list of scam patterns, and nothing about the page is sent anywhere. The extension only contacts Tech Peace's server with information about the page you're viewing in two situations:

  • An on-device check is ambiguous — the page's address and a trimmed, text-only summary (visible text, link text and destinations, button labels, form field labels — never images, scripts, styles, or anything you've typed into a field) are sent so Tech Peace's server can check it against Google Safe Browsing and, if still unclear, ask an AI model for a second opinion.
  • You tap the badge and ask a question — the same kind of trimmed, text-only summary of the current page, your question, and a short rolling history of your last few questions (so follow-up questions make sense) are sent so an AI model can write back a short, numbered answer specific to that page.

In both cases, only what's described above is sent — never your passwords, never the contents of other browser tabs, and never anything from a page the on-device check already judged safe.

Locally cached risk results

So that revisiting the same site doesn't repeat a check, the extension stores a small record for each site you've visited — the domain, the risk level, and a short plain-language reason — in your browser's local extension storage. Each record expires automatically after 24 hours.

How information is used

  • To sign you in and confirm you're a Tech Peace member before using the extension's features
  • To check whether a page shows signs of being a scam or phishing attempt, and to show you a plain-language warning if so
  • To answer a question you've asked about the page you're currently on
  • To enforce a fair daily limit on the number of questions a member can ask, so the service stays free and available to everyone
  • To keep a shared, anonymized record of which domains have already been checked by any member, so the same scam site doesn't need to be re-checked (and paid for) separately for each member

We do not use any information collected by the extension for advertising, and we do not build advertising profiles from it.

Who information is shared with

The extension's checks and answers depend on a small number of outside services:

  • Supabase, which hosts the member account database and authenticates sign-ins.
  • Google Safe Browsing, which Tech Peace's server checks a page's address against when an on-device check is ambiguous.
  • Google's Gemini API, which Tech Peace's server uses to generate scam assessments and chat answers from the trimmed page summary described above. Google's own terms govern how it processes requests made through this API; see Google's privacy policy for details.

No provider API key is ever included in the extension itself — every call to these services is made from Tech Peace's own server, after confirming you're a signed-in member, so the extension you install never holds credentials that could be extracted from it.

We do not sell information collected by the extension, and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.

How long information is kept

  • Your sign-in session is kept locally until you sign out or it's revoked, and is removed entirely if you uninstall the extension.
  • Locally cached risk results expire automatically after 24 hours.
  • The shared, domain-level record of previously-checked sites is kept on Tech Peace's server for as long as it remains useful for protecting members, and is not tied back to any individual member's browsing.
  • Your daily question count resets each day and is kept only long enough to enforce that limit.

Your choices

  • You can sign out of the extension at any time from its options page, which deletes your locally stored session.
  • Uninstalling the extension removes everything it stored locally on your device.
  • You can ask us to delete information tied to your Tech Peace account, or ask what we hold about you, by contacting support@mytechpeace.com.

Children's privacy

Tech Peace is a service for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 through this extension.

Security

Requests between the extension and Tech Peace's server are authenticated with your member sign-in token and sent over an encrypted connection. The extension requests access to the pages you visit only to perform the checks described above — it does not run any code other than what is packaged inside it, and it does not download or execute code from anywhere else.

Changes to this policy

If how the extension collects or uses information changes, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change. Significant changes will also be noted in the extension's Chrome Web Store listing.
